Coal was founded on the belief that headwear is more than an accessory. It’s part of you, your identity, and your lifestyle. We build this idea into each of our designs by using quality materials and exacting detail, and crafting styles that are as unique as you are.
In 2002 a group of friends got together to start a company that reflected their shared vision: headwear should be more than an accessory. At the time, hats, knit beanies, and the like were little more than a commodity that brands put their logo on. Coal chose not to. We saw an opportunity to provide the market with accessories that took fit, fashion, and function equally seriously, and looked at headwear as an extension of you, your identity and your lifestyle. Design was—and still is—the main factor of every style. Not only from the color, yarn / material type, or subtle branding, but to how the style actually fit and looked when worn. No longer was the beanie a standard size and shape that each company decorated with different patterns, colors and giant logos. It’s now all about design, uncompromising attention to detail, and superior components.
This logo throughout our collection indicates a Coal Considered style. Considered pieces are classically inspired with a modern twist, where no detail is overlooked. In our Fall / Winter 2013 collection we introduce new and innovative designs and even finer materials, from pure Mongolian cashmere to domestic wool felt and a North American alpaca / Merino wool blend.
